Reflection of Fieldwork

As relaxing as it to be done teaching it is always bittersweet. This semester I really enjoyed teaching and my majors history, so using the knowledge I have from my classes were great ! Working with fifth graders at first seemed very intimidating and I thought it would be challenging to challenge them, but it really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I really enjoyed the opportunity to teach of implementing a cooperative lesson plan. Out of all three lesson plans I think our cooperative lesson plan was the best. I really enjoyed being able to work with the kids in a small group and I loved watching them incorporate their own uniqueness and creativity.

As I went through fieldwork I learned the importance of implementing a cooperative lesson plan effectively. I felt that having pre-made groups and roles decided was a very strong instructional decision because it saved more time for instruction and for group work. In addition I felt by having roles and a contract made everyone responsible for putting in an effort to create a poster. Overall learning how to use a cooperative lesson plan in a unit plan was very meaningful to me. This experience was one of a kind.

Not only did I learn about different lessons and about my students I learned a few things about my classmates. My peers showed me the importance of planning. Although we could have done better managing our time we had everything planned out. During our lessons we had a script which made it easy for us to build upon each other's instruction and also elicit student responses. The best part about working with my group was seeing how unique everyone was. Everyone in my group contributed very unique ideas that I look forward to using in the future.

Overall I think all of the groups did great ! Group three used Petunia the Panda as their key component and I loved the usage of technology. Group four did a great job making connections between history and current day events like connecting gold miner apparel to the very popular jean company Levis'.

  1. I loved reading this because it was great working with you during fieldwork! I agree that we need to work on our time management, but I believe we all worked well together. Thank you for all the great ideas and support!

  2. Hi Rachel! I agree with you it was very important to have all of our lessons planned out before teaching. I was very happy to be as prepared as we were to teach and I think our lessons went very well because of it. I was very happy to finish up fieldwork and have all of our hard work pay off, but I was sad to leave our students behind.
